On Earth Day this year, LEAF announced some very exciting news: that we were expanding our Backyard Tree Planting Program to Ajax. We’ve been so thrilled to offer this subsidized program to Ajax residents, but we’re not stopping there! With support from the Town of Ajax, Durham Region, Toronto and Region Conservation and Ontario Power Generation, we’ll also be offering some fantastic educational programs this fall.

We launched the Hunt on Earth Day, April 22nd, and by the close of our nomination period, June 1st, we had received 390 entries.

On a very busy street corner, people collected on a patch of grass around a small podium fronted by two cute watering cans. We were there to celebrate the trees that line our streets and to launch an Adopt-a-Street-Tree pilot project that will engage volunteers and businesses in caring for trees planted along the Danforth between Woodbine and Victoria Park – 142 trees to be exact!
