Monarch Park Tour highlights urban forest in TO’s east end
(September 6, 2012) Today Amanda Gomm, Manager, Volunteer & Community Engagement, LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests) and Councillor Paula Fletcher, Ward 30 Toronto-Danforth, lead a guided tree tour through the city’s east end Monarch Park neighbourhood.
“We’re excited to lead what will be our seventh tour this year in the city’s east end,” says Gomm. “I love taking a closer look at the impressive natural history and stunning examples of what makes Toronto’s urban forest great.”
As tour participants explore this section of the urban canopy they learn about the variety of trees and green spaces the community has to offer. Making their way through the area they also discuss the benefits and stresses of urban trees, uncovering local neighbourhood initiatives and ways to get involved.
“I’m pleased to continue working alongside Councillor Fletcher,” says Gomm. “I love hearing the engaging stories in this community and, of course, taking the opportunity to share more of what we can do to keep its beautiful trees healthy.”
The Monarch Park Tree Tour is one of an ongoing community Tree Tour program developed by LEAF to tell the stories of the urban forest and the people and places it sustains.
