Community members invited to King tree planting events!

KING, ON – April 29, 2024 – The Township of King is collaborating with local environmental organization LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests) to plant a total of 3500 native trees and shrubs through eight public events this year. The collaboration underscores a significant expansion of naturalization efforts, with the goal of fostering environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Residents of the Township of King and York Region are invited to attend community planting events at Hill Farm Park North in Nobleton on Sunday, May 5 and at King Township Municipal Centre in King City on May 14.

Naturalization efforts for 2024 have already commenced, with over 500 native trees and shrubs planted at Budweth Park in King City on April 21st. Volunteers are transforming land with limited biodiversity value into thriving habitats for birds, pollinators and other wildlife. These endeavors will not only enhance the physical and mental well-being of King residents but also play a crucial role in improving air quality, reducing stormwater runoff, increasing property values and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

The partnership between the Township of King and LEAF marks a commitment to increasing tree canopy coverage and enhancing green spaces to benefit future generations. Since 2012, over 2,100 trees and shrubs have been planted through community events.

King residents play a key role in creating a green community and are needed to help accomplish these milestone tree planting goals.  LEAF invites anyone interested to participate – no tree planting experience necessary!
