My time at LEAF comes to a close, but the knowledge I’ve collected and the people I’ve worked with will be carried with me as I go.

It was spring 2014 when I first started working for LEAF. I was out in the field planting trees with the incomparable Brenna Ansett, LEAF’s Field Operations Coordinator. In a few short weeks I learned so much from her about trees and planting and it fed into my deep love of tree. I’d just finished my master’s degree (where I studied urban forests) and it was the perfect step into the real world of urban forestry. I was back in the fall to plant again, and then again this spring when I took on the position of planting programs assistant.

It has been a great year and a half, and working with the people at this organization has been a distinct and rare pleasure. Each person working to deliver LEAF’s diverse and various programing is a rock star – they are so dedicated and intelligent and I’m better for having been able to sit, discuss, debate, and learn from them.

The next step for me is a move to London, Ontario. As I leave this job and this city, I bring with me the new knowledge I’ve accumulated through my varied and interesting responsibilities and the indelible mark these amazing individuals have carved. I’m not sure where the new adventure will take me, but I know for sure my new yard will be filled with native trees and shrubs and my eyes will always be lifting up towards the canopy above.
