Increase Biodiversity in your Yard

Available to residents of Toronto, York Region and some municipalities within Durham Region.

We make it easy to plant native shrubs and pawpaw trees around your home, business or school to improve biodiversity, brighten up your space and/or create important habitat for birds and pollinators. Edible species provide a local food source in an urban environment, offering a great opportunity to discuss food security and share with your community. Harvest the urban forest, support native wildlife and get the most out of your backyard!

Shrubs and pawpaws can be ordered without a consultation - just choose your plants and give us a call to order!

Ordering Native Shrubs

Enhance biodiversity, brighten up your yard or create important food and habitat for wildlife and pollinators by planting native shrubs through LEAF. Our shrubs are $30 each and eastern white cedars are $50 each. These prices include mulch and delivery for orders of four or more shrubs/cedars (for fewer than four shrubs/cedars, a delivery fee of $25 per order applies). We do offer planting services for shrubs/cedars at an additional cost of $25 per item; however, we will not plant any shrubs/cedars without a site consultation.

Please note that shrubs are one to two feet in height and eastern white cedars are two to four feet at time of delivery.

If you are ordering only shrubs or cedars for delivery, no site consultation is required. Just follow these four easy steps:

  1. View our comprehensive list and photos of all of the native shrubs we are offering this year.  Please note that prices are subject to HST.
  2. Contact us to reserve your shrubs or cedars.
  3. Pay for your order by cheque, Visa or Mastercard.  We will send you a receipt once you place your order.
  4. Spring deliveries begin in April and continue through to the end of June. Fall deliveries begin in September and continue through to the end of November. Your shrub/cedar delivery may be scheduled at any time within these three-month periods and will include mulch and a Planting and Care Guide.

Please note

We will notify you two business days prior to your delivery date but unfortunately cannot provide you with a specific time of day. In order to maintain the most efficient delivery routes, we are unable to accommodate any scheduling requests. You do not need to be home on the day of delivery, as long as we have access to your backyard. This means that any gates must be left unlocked all day.

    Native Garden Kits Announcement

Since 2011, LEAF has offered Native Garden Kits, which included a curated selection of native herbaceous perennials and shrubs that residents could purchase, with several different themes and sizes. LEAF has decided to discontinue the sale of our Native Garden Kits, effective immediately. This follows a thorough review of internal and external factors..

The good news is that there are now many more sources of native perennials available to the public than when we began offering the kits many years ago!

We are pleased to offer the following links that will help you find native perennials and supporting resources:
